“Why Shouldn’t people be able to teleport wherever they want?”Palmer Luckey, the Founder of Oculus VR

Traveling seems to be a dream of everyone, to explore the world, to see all those amazing things and views they’ve on the internet. But due to the budget and now the Covid-19, this dream will be remain as a dream, and that’s so sad. This is what’s happening to individuals, what about the whole world? what about those industries focusing on providing services to the publics? Of course, this is a major issue should be taken into account. And now we have Virtual Reality.

During the pandemic, the Tourism and Travel industries are undergoing a dramatic decline due to the limited use of facilities, which is a major economic concern. However, those problems are slowly being addressed with Virtual Reality (VR) taking part in, thanks to advanced technology and the internet. Recently, Virtual Tourism has been acting as a marketing tool to promote the services and to enhance customer experience, so it will fit with the concept of Smart Tourism with the help of digitalization Web 3.0

Virtual Tourism is a remarkable invention which offers tourism experience to visitors without having to physically travel. It’s being practiced in the Travel and Tourism industries benefits both service suppliers and consumers, those activities include Hotel tours, attraction sides tours, and some also link with the educational sector such as College Campus tours. For the service providers, the Virtual Tourism is operated for marketing purposes and delivering promotions, which can be seen in a form of 360° videos or photos. Along with these, we have “Grand Oasis Resort”, Mexico; publishing a VR tour video introducing their unique facilities, and luxurious services with clear descriptions; can be checked out on YouTube.

The main interest of this new technology is to make an impossible trip possible for the tourists and to bring convenience; by having a VR headset with a comfortable place to stay, then you are all set; people can even bring up the idea of walking in the space now. Consumers also spend their time much wisely as the Virtual Tourism is used as a “Try before buyingstrategy, they can take a glimpse at the services beforehand such as airlines, hotels or resorts booking.

It also interestingly helps the environment, as travelers bring both pros and cons, VR is here to help balance them. These days, we’ve noticed that tourists also bring bad impacts, especially environmental issues to the attractions they paid a visit; more garbage, damages and pollution. With VR participating in, it reduces the overcrowding, but increases the numbers of tourists virtually.

Although Virtual Tourism is currently being used and enriched during the Covid-19 outbreaks, the developers are still working on it and making it much more conveniently accessible, so that the users can go anywhere they want with only VR headsets in their hands without any more barriers and concerns, that include time and budgets.
