In her commencement speech, Albright encourages women to stand up and show their power in changing and improving the world by using her unique style by letting her audience made their own decision.
Albright has started her speech by permitting the audience to make their own choice “whether to live their lives narrowly, selfishly and complacently or to act with courage and faith.” However, we know that there’s only 1 right choice; since she made her intention clear from (Line 5 till 35) mainly relying on the power of parallelism to convince her audience logically with the fact that many countries in the world are making a right choice. She uses parallelism to address how many countries in the world have made the right decision because she wants her audience to expand their thinking widely and recognize that it’s crucial to make an ethical choice.
(Line 40) Albright had clearly stated her audience and what she wants them to do. Instead of pointed out what she wants her audience to, but she let them choose their own destiny with a 2 choice. Albright also employs anaphora into her speech to describing how women has endured hardships in order to change and improve the world. (Line 67-68) “Each has suffered blows, but each has proceeded with courage. Each has preserved.” This show that no matter what the obstacle, they should fight with courage and also maintained till the end. Along with a few examples (Line 45 till 63) of a few women she knows that fight to change and improve their societies. This shows her audience that they’re not alone, there are many other women in the world that fight to change and improve the world.
She has stated her purpose clearly in (Line 70, 75, and 81) by using anaphora on the word “if you aim high enough” Along with parallelism to convince her audience to pick the right choice. Like in (Line72-72) “if there’s nobody in your way, then you’re not going anywhere” This show that she wants her Audience to stop ignoring the issue and start acting up, and in (Line 76) It shows that our decision in changing and improving the world is noticeable to others. Including the anaphora and parallelism, this shows that she wants the audience to expand their thinking higher and notice the problem in their world.
If I were to put myself in shoes of her audience as a woman, this speech has caught my attention and to participate with her. She gave us the choice to let make sure that we should think through and not just sit and listen. She also convinces use both logically and emotionally since he gave us an example from her experience and also support us too.
