Take a deep breath
It can work for those who think a lot. The next time you find yourself thinking a lot and turning away from your thoughts, close your eyes and take a deep breath.
Meditation
Establishing a regular meditation practice is a proven way to support your mind.
Do something good for someone else
Trying to ease the burden for someone can help you think of something good. Think of ways you can serve someone who is going through difficult times.
Acknowledge your success
When you are in the process of thinking, stop and pick up your laptop or open your favorite app on your phone.
For my experiences:
When I was in high school, I used to be an overthinking person especially at night. I was always alone, sitting and thinking about useless and negative things so it turn me to be a unconfident person. I always think negative and I do not truth anyone. Until one day, one of my friend asked me and I told him everything. He help me to solve this problem for two months.
First: I have to take a deep breath when I think about something that I can not handle. When I take a deep breath, it help me to think about new things and it not a negative thing like the last one.
Second: I also did meditate. It was like refreshing my brain to start thinking about good things. And it was very helpful for me.
Third: My friend told me to help someone else will help me to stop overthinking and I did not believe him. And the day that I tried it is the day that I knew I was wrong. So, I have to did it often to avoid overthinking.
Fourth: Sometimes, I need to have a break from school because everyone have to have a bad day in their life. But I have to ignored it and start doing something that I like. Example: stop doing homework and start playing game.
